LICITY COLLINS
COMPOSER, LEAD FACILITATOR
& FOUNDER
CURRENTS™ founder, Licity Collins, created CURRENTS after back-to-back hand injuries forced her to re-evaluate everything. She identified her own overwhelm and replaced it with a healthy, productive, and joyful, culture of Flow. She created the CURRENTS music and program to help others avoid stress and experience their work as joy.
Licity is based in Portland OR, and serving as the inaugural Music Fellow at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology. Licity is a lifelong musician, growing up in the cello section of the orchestra, singing in 8 different languages, playing piano, recorder, and saxophone. Now with guitar and voice, she creates folk/rock, and classical music that ignites fearlessness in her listeners. She is currently developing her first opera. Licity's Website
A dynamic trained facilitator, starting at the Leadership Institute near her hometown of Washington, DC when she was seventeen, Licity has decades of experience designing and leading transformational experiences that change the way we think about our lives, Licity is a captivating story teller, with a deep sense of empathy.
Holding degrees in American Civilization and Public Policy from Brown University, and a Masters of Fine Art from Portland State, Licity helped found ground-breaking arts organizations: the Women in Prison Project in Providence RI, defunkt theatre, and Disjecta Arts (Oregon Contemporary) in Portland OR. Licity can often be found in her beloved tent in the forest, playing her guitar.
How Licity Flows
“I had a big breakthrough when I realized that my voice practice has to use the 3 Beliefs or else I want to run screaming from the room: Resilience: I ask myself what feelings I am having before I sing a note. Ease: I give myself enough of a challenge so I don't get bored, but not so hard that I get frustrated. Creativity: Each practice has to solve a problem. Now my practice flows.”
JANICE CHAN
WATERCOLOR ARTIST
Janice Chan created the stunning watercolor that is the artwork for the Currents brand and website. Janice is based in Ventura, California, exhibiting and teaching in California and Illinois.
“Watercolor painting challenges me to study and think about how to interpret what I see and feel into a composition. Inspiration comes to me when I make a personal connection with my work—it could be something that moves me spiritually or emotionally. I envision the process of painting to be like a journey— it can be a planned event or a spontaneous adventure. In sharing my art and teaching watercolors, I believe that there is no simple answer to anything. You have to go with the Flow—the best things happen when you are in the zone."
How Janice Flows
“The belief of Resilience is central to how I create Flow. My favorite quote is from Nelson Mandela: ‘The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall’.”
